About Advanced Braking Technology Ltd
Advanced Braking Technology Ltd (ABT) manufactures and distributes its award winning patented Sealed Integrated Braking System (SIBS®) worldwide. From its head office in Perth, Western Australia, ABT is continuing to develop its SIBS® brakes for sectors that have a strong requirement for safety and environmental responsibility.
Over the last 5 years, ABT has risen to become the pre-eminent supplier of fail-safe brakes for commercial vehicles used in the Australian mining sector. ABT's SIBS® brakes are well known for their unparalleled safety, improved productivity, zero emissions and toughness in the world's harshest conditions. As their reputation has grown, demand for SIBS® brakes has expanded internationally and ABT now has a significant portion of its sales coming from North America and South Africa. As mining continues to thrive, there is further scope to expand ABT's presence in these regions as well as in South America and Europe.
ABT has now successfully adapted this proven technology for Toyota Landcruisers, Toyota Hilux's, Mitsubishi Canters, Isuzu NPS300s, plus several other special purpose brake designs including concrete agitator trucks and explosive carrying vehicles used in underground mines.
ABT continues to invest considerable research and development time collaborating with various industry sectors to customize the SIBS® technology for new applications requiring safer and improved braking solutions. The most recent of these projects has seen the development and commercialisation of SIBS® Brakes for trailers and trucks.
The Sealed Integrated Braking System (SIBS®) is a unique world-class product leading the way in brake technology. SIBS® is a fully enclosed, single-rotor, high speed 'wet' disc brake that has greater reliability than standard brakes and operates in the harshest of conditions with virtually no need for maintenance or reconditioning.
Developed through extensive research and patented worldwide, SIBS® brakes provide unrivalled dependability in any situation. SIBS® are specifically designed to protect you, your machinery and our environment.
SIBS® brakes increase your productivity by removing periods of extended downtime while the brakes are being reconditioned. As SIBS® brakes are fully enclosed, they produce no harmful emissions and are the most environmentally friendly brakes on the market. SIBS® brakes are currently available for numerous on-road/off-road light commercial vehicles. Highly adaptable, SIBS® can be fitted (or retro-fitted) to any braked application, large or small, automotive or industrial.
The construction of SIBS® is simple:
The brake calliper, providing the braking force, is extended to enclose the disc. This makes up the housing. The housing is split around the disc into inner and outer portions. The inner housing is mounted to the axle end. The pads, disc and hub are installed; and the outer housing is fitted to complete the assembly and enclose the brake components. At this point SIBS® cooling fluid is added into the housing. SIBS® cooling fluid is a specially selected oil which provides a path to conduct the heat from the brake disc to the housing. This enables the heat to then be rejected from the housing to the surrounding air, controlling the operating temperature of the system.
SIBS Truck Brakes
ABT's SIBS® braking system has also been designed for use in trucks and trainlers, where there is a critical requirement for frequent braking. This application of SIBS® is based on the same proven 'wet braking' principles of SIBS® mining brakes. The design is readily adaptable for other high brake demand applications.
The SIBS® Brake significantly extends brake overhaul intervals and is compatible with modern anti-skid systems (ABS). The brake has been designed to be compatible with either retro-fit or factory fit installations.
The current product is available for use on Iveco Acco 6X4 trucks and is available in either ABS or non-ABS variants. Non-ABS vehicles can be upgraded to ABS.
