About Austin Engineering

Austin Engineering is a leading designer and manufacturer of customised dump truck bodies, buckets and ancillary products used in the mining industry.

With over 30 years experience in the mining and manufacturing industry, Austin Engineering is an expert at solving engineering challenges.

They are also a complete service provider, offering on and off-site repair and maintenance and heavy equipment lifting services to customers including miners, mining contractors and original equipment manufacturers.

With a presence in some of the world's principal mining regions, Austin Engineering provides high quality, cost effective solutions, delivered on-time and backed by through-life product support.

The company employs over 1500 people with a combined annual turnover of $AUD288 million. While Austin Engineering has only been listed since 2004, the sum of its divisions has been around for 70 years.

History

The company was originally founded in 1982 by Ron and Gloria Austin and head office has been at its current location at the Carole Park Industrial Estate, 20kms west of Brisbane's CBD, since 1991. After a period of growth and expansion Austin was acquired by West Australian Metals Ltd in 2003. The company floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2004.

2004 acquired Perth-based John's Engineering & Cranes Pty Ltd (JEC), one of Australia's longest established manufacturers of Mining and Earthmoving attachments and off highway truck bodies.

2006 acquired Kaldura Industries, a heavy engineering business located at Mackay in Central Queensland that specialises in mining equipment repairs and provides the company with a significant capacity to provide fabrication and equipment repair services to the resources industry around the Bowen Basin.

2007 acquired two other businesses, another in Central Queensland – Austbore Pty Ltd located in Mackay and Western Technology Services based in Casper, Wyoming USA. Austbore's core capabilities include general machining services, the overhaul of track frames and other mining equipment and mobile line-boring services. Western Technology Services, or Westech, is one of the world's largest non-OEM designer and manufacturer of off highway dump truck bodies.

2009 acquired the steel dump truck body business from Conymet Ltda based in the industrial precinct of La Negra in Antofagasta, Chile's largest mining region. Conymet has a 25-year history in truck body design, manufacturing large mining equipment and providing services to the large Chilean mining Industry.

2010 acquired WA based Pilbara Hire Group Pty Ltd. This specialist site based company offers fixed and mobile repair and maintenance services and complements Austin's Westech and JEC products. In the same year acquired the business and assets of COR Cooling Group and Hunter Valley-based Phillips Engineering Pty Ltd. This specialist repair and maintenance facility offers a full range of both site and on-site services. COR Cooling specializes in engineered heat transfer systems with facilities in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Mackay, Hunter Valley and Adelaide.

2011 acquired the business of V&V at Calama in Chile providing repair and maintenance support to Chilean mines and opened/acquired three new manufacturing factories, Austin Indonesia at Batam Island, Austin Ingenieros Colombia at Barranquilla and Austin Engineering Peru in Lima.

2013 acquired the business of Servigrut, a significant and successful supplier of heavy equipment lifting, transportation and site services to the mining and industrial markets in Chile based in Antofagasta close to Austin's existing operations.

Off-Highway Dump Truck Bodies

Austin Engineering is the designer and manufacturer of Westech and JEC bodies as well as a manufacturer of OEM off-highway dump truck bodies. Their dump truck trays are custom engineered for all makes and models of trucks and applications. They use a unique mix of steel plate during their monitored fabrication process and design and install wear liner packages to suit client applications.

Their engineering experience enables them to deliver increased payloads, increased strength and wear ability, and increased reliability. Thier ability to pass match maximises your fleet capabilities and lowers operating costs.

Buckets

Austin Engineering are industry leaders in the design and manufacture of mining buckets to suit excavators, front end loaders and wheel loaders.

Their JEC designs, ranging from 1.5m3 to 52m3, are suitable for any application whether hard rock, iron ore, or coal. From high production lightweight buckets through to heavy duty armored buckets, each bucket is customised to suit your specific application.

They understand the importance of maximising machine efficiency so they engineer your bucket to capacity match bucket weight and material density and undertake pass matching – this results in faster cycle times.

Water Tanks

Suitable for 6 x 6 road articulated or off-highway trucks, their water tank modules, for dust suppression or firefighting trucks, are heavy duty in their construction. Available in 14,000 to 180, 000 litre capacity, all spray equipment brands are available including the quality magnum product range.

Austin Engineering's unique Stair Access Water Tank module, unlike traditional water tank modules, has larger baffle openings with a direct line of travel to improve safety when performing confined space maintenance work. Its innovative baffle design reduces surging and improves truck stability by up to 18%, increasing operator safety.

Austin Engineering design and manufacture a comprehensive range of tyre handling equipment from 1,00kg to 10,000kg capacity.

Their JEC tyre handlers offer a range of options including 30 degree body/120 degree pad rotation or 360/360 option, telescopic or parallelogram designs, side shift and quick hitch. A range of connections are available.

Their unique T3 Tyre Handler is a compact tyre handler for use underground and in confined space, along with above ground use. The T3's unique third arm gives added stability when performing tyre maintenance, making the process safer. Pilbara Hire specialises in providing qualified trades people for strategic maintenance of mine site equipment, for both heavy duty mobile machinery and fixed plant, specialist shutdown teams, condition monitoring, GET monitoring and mobile locomotive refuelling.

Austin Ingenieros

The Austin Ingenieros brand represents the company's operations in Chile and Colombia, providing design and manufacture of mining and earthmoving equipment, along with the provision of support services.

Austin Ingenieros Chile designs and fabricates a range of mining equipment and specialised in repair and maintenance services, particularly long-term on-site contracts.

The Colombian operation manufactures a full complement of mining products including truck bodies, water tanks, cable reels, mining buckets and tyre handlers.

Austbore

Austbore is a machining business situated at Paget, Mackay, in Central Queensland, Australia, which provides services to the mining and resources industry. Austbore joined the Austin Engineering Group in 2007.

The company offers a variety of services from its facilities including vertical and horizontal boring, lathe work, heavy equipment reclamation and sub-arc welding.

Austbore is unique in the ability of its equipment to be transported wherever necessary for jobs that include journal welding and mining machine repairs. The company operates six fully-equipped mobile boring machines capable of performing on-site repairs to virtually any size machinery. All operators are fully qualified first grade machinists.

COR Cooling

With facilities in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Adelaide, Thornton, Singleton, Brisbane and Mackay, COR Cooling joined the Austin Engineering Group in 2010.

COR Cooling is the only national service provider and manufacturer of industrial cooling and heat transfer equipment. The company is a market leader working closely with some of the world's largest companies in the mining, marine, transport and associated industries.

COR Cooling is also the manufacturer of Diecon Marine, a leading marine brand in the Australian and South Pacific region, and the exclusive Australian supplier of Dura-Lite® Charge Air Coolers, a market leading product in the transport industry.

Pilbara Hire

Pilbara Hire Group provide full turnkey, on-site repair and maintenance services throughout Western Australian mine sites, with a particular focus on mobile mining and fixed plant equipment. Pilbara Hire add value to the operations of their clients by fostering an environment of innovation, quality and safety.

Operating since January 2006, and joining the Austin Engineering Group in 2010, Pilbara Hire has quickly grown to be an established company with service arrangements with major mineral producers in Western Australia for the on-site repairs of their fleets and equipment, as well as completing specialist shutdown projects.

The Pilbara Hire business offers strong synergies to Austin Engineering by being able to provide on-site service and support for Austin's mining attachment product range. Austin Engineering adds value to Pilbara Hire by providing additional short term skilled labour, workshop facilities for large projects and engineering support.

Westech

Westech is recognised as a world leader in engineering and manufacturing of off highway, mining truck bodies and is based in Casper, Wyoming. Westech was founded in 1938 in Wyoming as WOTCO to service the oil drilling industry. In 1969, the company moved into the design and manufacturing of truck bodies for the mining industry.

Westech truck bodies fit all the major original equipment manufacturers (OEM's). Westech is known for its innovative designs that are custom engineered to a customers specific needs. Product offerings include the gate-free coal body, over burden bodies, combo bodies, and specialty bodies such as waste management.

In 2007, Westech became part of the Austin Engineering Group.

Servigrut

Servigrut, which was established in 1986, is based in Antofagasta Chile. Over the years it has grown to become a significant and successful supplier of heavy equipment lifting, transportation and site services to the mining and industrial markets in Chile.

Servigrut's services are complementary to those provided by Austin's similar business in Calama.

In 2013, Servigrut became part of the Austin Engineering Group.
