General Overview

About Buxton Resources

Buxton is listed on the ASX (October 2007). The goal of Buxton Resources is to create shareholder wealth through the discovery and development of world-class precious metal, base metal and iron deposits. The strategy is two-fold and runs in parallel, consisting of project evaluation and project acquisition.

The Company has two projects in southern Western Australia which it believes have the capability of delivering a world-class discovery. The key drivers for success will be rapid assessment using cost-effective innovative exploration techniques with accelerated funding directed to those projects which meet key decision points and exceed internal technical hurdles.

Buxton will also assess other mineral projects (and acquire where appropriate) those which have known mineralisation, strong technical merit and a real chance of delivering success.

Zanthus Ni-Cu Project

BUXThe Zanthus Ni-Cu Project is located approximately 60km along strike from the Sirius Resources' (ASX:SIR) Nova-Bollinger Ni-Cu discovery in the emerging Fraser Range Nickel Province, Western Australia. The project covers an area of 367km2. Gravity data was gathered over an area of 137km2 of the potential gneiss units interpreted as being similar to those that host "the Eye" mafic - ultramafic intrusive that contains the Nova-Bollinger deposit.

Buxton commenced a HeliVTEM survey over the Zanthus (E28/1959) Project in August 2013. The survey covered 145km² and was flown at 250m spacing using the VTEM max system. If conductors indicating potential sulphide bodies are encountered, additional infill lines will be considered.

  • Z-01: Very strong remanent magnetisation with coincident gravity high located on fold axis of dome structure and margin of a large intrusive body. Surface copper geochemistry high 112ppm.
  • Z-02: Magnetic features including discrete positive anomalies and remanent magnetisation. Localised gravity high located along fold axis of large dome-type structure on the margin of intrusive body.
  • Z-06: Moderate to weak magnetic remanence on the margin of intrusive body. Located along regional shear zone with both broader and discrete gravity highs. Surface nickel geochemistry high 95 ppm.

Buxton has planned a 3,000m RC drill program to test up to 20 conductors, some with nearby calcrete geochemical anomalies, defined in the recent ground EM survey for Ni-Cu sulphide mineralisation.

Heritage clearances have been received, whilst POW clearances are pending.

In the first quarter of 2014, the RC drill program commenced and in May 2014, the program confirmed the presence of ultramafic and mafic units including those in which the presence of preserved magmatic nickel-copper sulphides indicates excellent prospectivity for larger accumulations of nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation.

Important Observations From the Drilling Program Include
  • Confirmed magmatic nickel-copper sulphides within ultramafic rock
  • Thick intercepts of ultramafic to mafic (gabbro) rocks with weak to strongly disseminated sulphides (mainly pyrrhotite)
  • Confirmation of the broad geology interpreted from previous magnetic, gravity and electromagnetic surveys

Yalbra Project

The Yalbra Graphite Project is located 250km North West of Meekatharra and 280km East of Carnarvon, Western Australia, and covers an area of 37km2. Buxton has recently expended its strategic ground holdings via agreements to acquire the Coordewandy and Gum Creek Graphite Projects along strike from Yalbra "main zone" target. Upon granting of these licences, Buxton's total tenement package will cover an area of 437km2.

The Yalbra Graphite Project is a high grade Graphite project, that has a significant preliminary global Exploration Target of 8-12 Million Tonnes @ 7 - 11% C* which was delivered by Buxton's geological team. The exploration target was based on historical percussion drilling results and comprises six separate zones where graphite mineralisation was intersected in historical drilling. Coarse flake Graphite was encountered in previous drilling and metallurgical testwork.

At Yalbra, Buxton Resources recently confirmed substantial widespread high grade graphite at surface through a rock-chip sampling program, building on the encouraging results from an Airborne VTEM survey that identified strong graphite conductors over a 6km strike length. The majority of known mineralised zones remain open at depth and along strike. These results are driving the generation of high quality drill targets with a program planned to commence shortly.

During November 2013, the Company completed a 15 hole RC drilling program for 1,689 metres at Yalbra. Drilling and petrographic results have far exceeded the Company's expectations. Very high-grade graphite occurs within multiple zones over 500m strike length and is open at depth and along strike including;

  • YBRC001 32m @ 23.4% TGC inc. 7m @ 32.6% TGC
  • YBRC002 14m @ 22.3% TGC inc. 6m @ 26.8% TGC
  • YBRC011 14m @ 21.5% TGC inc. 5m @ 33.0% TGC
  • YBRC012 31m @ 22.9% TGC inc. 5m @ 30.2% TGC
  • YBRC015 31m @ 22.5% TGC inc. 6m @ 33.0% TGC

Buxton believes these to be the highest grade graphite drill intercepts reported in Australia.

A significant portion of graphite in petrographic samples was shown to have medium to coarse flakes.

In February 2014, Buxton announced a maiden very high grade inferred graphite resource estimate for Yalbra to JORC Code reporting standards:

2.27 million tonnes @20.1% TGC

Buxton believes this to be the highest reported grade graphite resource in Australia.

In May 2014, Buxton commenced a ~1,750m combined RC and diamond drilling program at Yalbra. Program objectives include:

  • Resource expansion
  • Upgrade existing resource to facilitate scoping study
  • Diamond drilling for metallurgical testing

The program is expected to take approximately 3 - 4 weeks to complete and results will be reported as soon as they become available.

With the recently strengthened strategic land position and positive exploration results, the project continues to represent an exciting opportunity for the company to delineate a substantial potential resource and gain exposure to the buoyant graphite market with current prices and future demand outlook for the market remaining positive.

Project Background and Historical Results

Historical field observations indicated that the Graphite occurs both in disseminated and veinlet styles. Coarse flake Graphite was identified in both drilling logs and in a rudimentary metallurgical test of near-surface mineralisation. However, from the historical information available it is not currently possible to estimate what percentage of the graphite mineralisation would fall into the coarse flake category.

Widowmaker Project

Buxton's Widowmaker Project is located in the newly identified Fraser Range Nickel Province, Western Australia, and covers an area of approximately 225km2. The Fraser Range Nickel Province is host to a number of significant discoveries, most notably Sirius Resources' (ASX: SIR) Nova discovery with Buxton's Widowmaker Project located 22km along strike.

Approximately 20km of strike length of the favourable lithological host-rock package is interpreted to underlie the Widowmaker Project with multiple, significant Ni, Cu and PGE anomalies identified in a historical calcrete soil sampling database.

Recently, the Company completed an Airborne VTEM survey at the Widowmaker Project, which identified a minimum of 14 interpreted bedrock conductors that will be part of an aggressive planned exploration program. Of these, 7 have been defined as priority targets and 4 were located on or immediately adjacent to the interpreted Nova Structure.

The Company is currently focussed on compiling and assessing all historical surface geochemistry, drilling and geophysical data and the immediate commencement of an infill calcrete surface geochemistry program.

The outcomes of this activity will drive the planned program that includes a reverse circulation and diamond drilling campaign to test the highest priority bedrock conductors.

The Widowmaker Project represents a strong opportunity in the emerging Fraser Range Nickel Belt. With the proximity to Sirius Resources' Nova Ni-Cu sulphide discovery along strike from Widowmaker, and encouraging historical geochemical results over the project, the project provides a compelling exploration opportunity for the Company.

Project Background and Historical Results

During the period 1997-2001 Geographe Resources conducted a detailed aeromagnetic survey, and a broad 1km x 1km regional calcrete sampling program over the current Widowmaker Project area. The calcrete sampling program highlighted at least 3 broad, multi-element Ni±Cu±PGE anomalies.

Zanthus Magnetite Project

Infrastructure:The Zanthus Magnetite Project lies within 25km of the Trans-Australia rail line, and 35km from the Zanthus railhead and rail siding that the Company can utilise for bulk commodity loading. The Zanthusrailhead is located approximately 200km East of Kalgoorlie, and 600km by rail to Esperance Port.Esperance Port currently has the capacity to handle cape-sized vessels up to 200,000 tonnes, with expansion commencing 2012. An airstrip is also located immediately adjacent to the Zanthus railhead allowing ease of access to these areas.

Superior Metallurgy:Buxton has undertaken Davis Tube metallurgical test-work, which has revealed premium recoveries, grind size and low silica content. Recently completed test-work confirmed a 66.4% avg. Iron product delivered at 150 micron grind size and up to 68% Fe experienced in earlier testing.

  • Comparably the metallurgical characteristics of BUX's magnetite project are amongst the best in Australia.
  • High grade iron product can be produced at a very coarse grain size of 150 micron (p80) .
  • Coarse grind size indicates that future CAPEX and OPEX may be significantly lower than similar operations.

Resource Estimate: Buxton Resources has reported an initial JORC compliant resource at its Cohen Prospect completed by Runge Ltd, the first of the five target areas that will be subject to resource drilling. The maiden inferred resource estimate at the Cohen prospect was recorded as 103 million tonnes, grading 26.5% fe determined with a 20% cut-off. The Cohen prospect was selected as the first target due to its proximity to transport infrastructure and potential for an open pit mining scenario. A scoping study being conducted by Runge Ltd is progressing towards completition.

Exploration targets: Buxton has a total exploration target at the Zanthus Project of between 0.7 and 1.3 billion tonnes* that will incorporate the JORC resource estimates yet to be definedover the remaining target areas. (See table below for individual prospect details)

Exploration/outlook: While the company has delineated a moderate sized JORC complaint resource at the Cohen prospect, there is strong potential exploration upside presented at the remaining targets within the Zanthus Project area. The company will undertake further resource drilling to determine the extent of the total potential resource at Zanthus.

* The potential quality and grade of the Zanthus Exploration Target is conceptual in nature. There has been insufficient exploration to define a Mineral Resource and its uncertain if further exploration will result in the determination of a Mineral Resource.

Dempster Project

Buxton has complete two main phases of calcrete sampling which has identified large low-level gold anomalies. A web page update for this project is under construction and for progress report refer to the latest quarterly reports.

The Project area is located 90 km north-northeast of Esperance and approximately 60 km west of the sealed Kalgoorlie-Esperance highway and rail line. It consists of three exploration licence applications covering 411.6 km2.

The principle target is gold mineralisation associated with a northeast trending corridor of Paleoproterozoic rocks which are thrust north-westerly over the Archaean Yilgarn Craton. New discoveries by AngloGold Ashanti at Tropicana – Havana and Beachcomer located along strike and to the northeast indicate that this is an emerging new Australian gold province.

There is no outcrop in the Project area, however wide spaced exploration drilling carried out in the past for lignite and base metals indicates that the depth to basement is consistently less than 20 m.

Reconnaissance work by previous explorers in the Project area has located gold-in-calcrete and gold in bedrock.

  • The gold-in-calcrete surface anomalies are not well defined as sampling was restricted to existing access tracks. Nonetheless, the surface anomalies are considered significant as many gold values exceed 2.5 ppb gold with a peak value of 14 ppb gold. The dimension of this gold anomaly is comparable in size and magnitude that led to the discovery of the Tropicana – Havana Prospect. Systematic grid-based sampling is planned to better define the gold target prior to drill testing.
  • The gold in bedrock anomaly was originally detected by BHP in aircore hole GPDH141. This hole was part of a fence line traverse to investigate the base metal potential of the district. Holes were vertical and spaced at 400m along the traverses. Mineralisation in GPDH141 occurred at the bottom of the hole associated with saprock after medium grained feldspar-quartz-biotite gneiss. The bottom of hole sample from the 20-21 m interval returned 0.687 g/t gold, 439 ppm copper with elevated silver, molybdenum, nickel and tin. This Paleoproterozoic gold intercept is considered highly significant and confirms the potential of the region.

These anomalies were not explored further by BHP. These results are considered highly significant and a systematic grid-based surface sampling program is proposed followed by aircore drilling of generated targets and infill aircore drilling around Hole GPDH141.
