Step 2

Select the investment product you wish to purchase

Purchasing shares in a company buys you part ownership of that company. You're given the right to vote on who manages the company and receive a portion of company profits through the distribution of dividends.

Example: If a share price quote is $25, then that means one share is valued at $25.

Note: Shares are also referred to as stocks, equities and securities.

Is an abbreviation for "Contract for Difference". A CFD is a 'derivative' that is derived from the underlying value of the share price. A CFD’s allow you to go long (buy the CFD) or go short (sell the CFD).

CFD's give you leverage.

Example: Buying a CFD in XYZ provides you with an opportunity to purchase the shares at a variable rates such as 10 to 1 ratio instead of the full upfront share value cost i.e. paying $1,000 instead of $10,000.

Because CFDs are traded on margin, you must maintain the minimum margin level at all times.

Note: CFD’s are not recommended for novice traders.

PNG LNG Project

OSHThe PNG LNG Project is a 6.9 million tonne per annum (MTPA) integrated LNG project operated by ExxonMobil PNG Limited. The gas will be sourced from the Hides, Angore and Juha gas fields and from associated gas in the Kutubu, Agogo, Moran and Gobe Main oil fields.Over 9tcf of gas and 200 million barrels of associated liquids are expected to be produced over the Project's 30 year life. The gas will be conditioned in the PNG Highlands and then transported by gas pipeline to an LNG plant located approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Port Moresby. The gas will then be liquefied at the LNG plant prior to loading onto ocean going tankers to be shipped to international gas markets.

OSHThe Kutubu Oil Project, which was Papua New Guinea's first commercial oilfield development, is located in the southern highlands of Papua New Guinea and takes its name from nearby Lake Kutubu. Oil was first discovered at Kutubu in the Iagifu sandstone structure in 1986 and commercial production commenced in June 1992.The Kutubu development comprises a network of wells that produce oil from the Iagifu-Hedinia, Usano and Agogo fields, a gathering system and on-site processing facilities (the Agogo and Central Processing Facilities) and supporting infrastructure, as well as a 265 kilometre export pipeline to the coast and a marine loading terminal in the Gulf of Papua.

The pipeline operates under Pipeline Licence 2 (PL-2), while the oilfield operates under Petroleum Development Licence 2 (PDL-2). Both licences were issued in December 1990 for a term of 25 years and were extended in December 2009 until December 2035.Production from the Kutubu field peaked in 1993 at 130,000 bopd. Although still a strong contributor to Oil Search's profitability, the Kutubu Oil Project is well into its decline phase due to natural field depletion. However, efforts over the past several years to arrest the production decline have been highly successful with additional production resulting from the drilling of development wells at Kutubu, Agogo and Usano.

OSHThe Greater Moran Oil Project straddles three licence areas, namely PDL 2, PDL 5 and PDL 6 and is located in the Southern Highlands Province, 480 kilometres north-west of Port Moresby. The first Moran well was drilled in June 1996 and oil was discovered in September 1996 when the Moran 1X well sidetrack, which is located within PDL 2 (the licence area hosting the Kutubu Oil Project) encountered oil-bearing sands.

Production commenced from the field in January 1998 by way of an Extended Well Test (EWT) programme, producing oil from the Moran 1X, 2X and 5 wells, all of which are located within PDL 2. An EWT on Moran 4 located in PDL 5 (PPL 138) commenced production in April 2000.In March 2001, the Central Moran Unit Agreement between the PDL 2 and PDL 5 Joint Venture partners was executed, and full field development of the Central Moran Project was completed in September 2002.The Central Moran Oil Field was developed as a single Unit with ownership of the Unit in the proportion of 45% by PDL 2 and 55% by PDL 5. The Central Moran Project was designed and installed based on:

  • Oil production capacity of up to 24,000 bopd;
  • Gas injection capacity of up to 105 mmscfd; and
  • Oil recovery by injection of Moran solution gas supplemented by Agogo gas to maintain reservoir pressure.

Moran production is processed at the Agogo Production Facility (APF) and liquids are then piped to the Central Production Facility for further processing, storage and export through the export pipeline. The Moran PDL-5 participants pay a tariff to the PDL-2 and PL-2 partners for processing and transporting crude through the Kutubu system.

OSHThe Gobe Oil Project comprises two producing oil fields, namely the South East (SE) Gobe oil field and the Gobe Main oil field. SE Gobe was discovered in early 1991. The SE Gobe discovery was significant because for the first time commercial quantities of oil in the Iagifu sandstone were found. Prior to this, the majority of oil had been discovered in the Toro sandstone. The Gobe Main field was discovered in December 1993 and is located 5 kilometres to the north west of the SE Gobe field. Oil reserves in Gobe Main are also contained in the Iagifu sandstone.

In December 2001, the Saunders field was discovered in PDL-4.The Gobe Main field is wholly located within Petroleum Development Licence 4 (PDL-4), while SE Gobe straddles the boundary of PDL-4 and adjoining PDL-3. Originally, 55% of SE Gobe oil reserves were attributed to PDL-4 and the balance to PDL-3. A re-determination, effective from June 2001, revised the oil split to 59% in PDL-3 and 41% in PDL-4.Oil is exported via an 8 kilometre pipeline which joins the Gobe Processing Facility to the Kutubu Export Pipeline and marine loading terminal in the Gulf of Papua. The Gobe Project pays a tariff to the PDL-2 and PL-2 participants for the use of the export pipeline and infrastructure.

The construction of infrastructure and production facilities for the Gobe Oil Project was completed in early 1998 and the first crude oil flowed from the Gobe Main field in March 1998 and from the SE Gobe field in April 1998.Production peaked in December 1998 at 18,500 bopd from SE Gobe and at 20,000 bopd from Gobe Main in September 1999. In early 2005, the SE Gobe 11 well discovered an oil column in an undrained area of the SE Gobe field, located between Saunders and SE Gobe. An appraisal/development programme took place during 2006 to exploit this area. Both fields are now in their decline phase, but active well management and facility optimisation is ongoing, to mitigate the fields' natural decline rates.

Hides GTE

OSHThe Hides gas field, located in PDL 1, was discovered in 1987. It is a large anticlinal structure, approximately 30 kilometres long and five kilometres wide. Four wells have been drilled on the structure to date.Gas production commenced in 1991 with the development of the Hides Gas to Electricity Project (GTE). The Hides GTE project consists of a pipeline (PL 1) connecting the Hides-1 and Hides-2 wells to a small gas conditioning plant at the Hides Production Facility (HPF) located in the Tagari River valley.

Sales gas is then used by the Porgera Joint Venture to generate electricity in an adjacent facility. The electricity is transmitted to the Porgera Gold Mine by overhead wire. Condensate produced along with the gas is distilled into naphtha and diesel which is sold into local markets and used as back-up fuel for the power station. Oil Search owns 100% of the GTE project and is Operator. The gas is sold under a long-term gas supply contract, which was revised in the first half of 2012.

SE Mananda

OSHThe SE Mananda field, located in PDL 2, was discovered in 1991. While the field was very close to the Kutubu facilities, it is on the other side of a very deep gorge and consequently, for a number of years, was deemed to be uncommercial.Following the PNG Government's introduction of a marginal field tax regime to encourage the development of smaller oil fields, and the transfer of Operatorship, Oil Search commenced detailed technical and engineering studies on the SE Mananda field during 2003. This work confirmed that the field was economic based on a low cost development and incorporating an appropriate fiscal regime. A development plan was sanctioned in 2004 and the fiscal and regulatory framework agreed with the PNG Government in early 2005. The SE Mananda development came on-stream in early 2006.

There were significant challenges associated with the development, including very difficult terrain and the need to span the 470 metre wide, 400 metre deep Hegigio Gorge. The latter resulted in the design and construction of the world's longest pipeline suspension bridge. In addition, the SE Mananda landowners are made up of three separate ethnic groups, which under Oil Search, for the first time came together in a cooperative manner. The infrastructure will facilitate further development opportunities along the Mananda ridge.

OSHWhile Oil Search's primary focus is in PNG, where all its producing assets are presently located and where several high value growth opportunities have been identified, the Company has a strategy to expand and build on its existing international assets located in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

This strategy will provide diversification, as Oil Search presently has a high degree of exposure to a single country (PNG) and, when PNG LNG production commences, to a single commodity (gas). The Company's MENA assets have the potential to generate long-term growth, in addition to the PNG LNG Project and LNG expansion in PNG.

PNG Exploration

OSHOil Search believes there is material oil potential remaining in PNG and has an ongoing strategy to explore for oil, particularly within or in close proximity to its existing infrastructure.

Oil Search continues to pursue oil exploration opportunities in PNG, particularly those that are close to existing infrastructure. One of those opportunities is the Mananda Ridge in the PNG Highlands, where oil was discovered by Mananda 5 in late 2010.

In 2013, the Mananda 6 well was drilled and discovered oil in two intervals, confirming the presence of the hydrocarbon bearing sands found at Mananda 5.

In August, the Company submitted a Petroleum Development Licence application covering the Mananda 5 and Mananda 6 oil discoveries to the PNG Government. The conceptual development plan envisages a tie-back of the Mananda oil discoveries to the South East Mananda facilities, with primary oil processing to take place at the Agogo Processing Facility.

In December 2013, the Company spudded the Mananda 7 appraisal well. This was suspended in early 2014 as a potential future oil producer.

Iraq Exploration

OSHOil Search regards Kurdistan as one of the few places left in the world where independent oil companies can capture material exploration positions with large reserve potential and on satisfactory commercial terms. A number of large oil and gas discoveries have been made in Kurdistan over the past decade and major global companies have established positions in the country. As a result, the region is starting to transition into a significant energy player. The Kurdistan Regional Government has announced production targets of one million bopd in 2015 and two million bopd by 2020.

Tunisia Exploration

OSHOil Search also has exploration activites in Tunisia, through its 100% interest in the Tajerouine Permit, awarded in December 2007 (Oil Search operator). The Company disposed of its 25% interest in the Le Kef permit in late 2012 . The Tajerouine permit is located in the onshore Tunisian fold belt.

In early 2013, the Company spudded the Semda 1 exploration well located in the Tajerouine PSC, marking the Company's inaugural drilling activity in Tunisia. The well reached total depth with no indications of hydrocarbons and was plugged and abandoned in March. The results have constrained the distribution of Cretaceous reservoirs in the frontier block. Towards the end of the year, a contract was signed to acquire a 300 kilometre 2D seismic survey in the south of the Tajerouine PSC. The survey is expected to commence in the second half of 2014.

Yemen Exploration

OSHOil Search has an interest in Block 7, Al Barqa (34%, Operator) in Yemen. This follows the sale of Block 3 (Gardan) (40%) in March 2012 to Total S.A. of France.

In 2010, Al Meashar-1 in Block 7 discovered oil in the fractured basement reservoir. The Al Meashar discovery was appraised in late 2010/early 2011 by the Al Meashar-2 well. The wells have been suspended for further evaluation.

Block 7 has been in force majeure since mid-2011 due to the 'Arab Spring" uprising. During 2013, the Yemeni Government granted the Joint Venture a 12 month extension of the licence until June 2014. This was extended to June 2015 during the second quarter of 2014. Preparations for a joint operator airborne geophysical survey continue.
