CFD

Is an abbreviation for "Contract for Difference". A CFD is a 'derivative' that is derived from the underlying value of the share price. A CFD’s allow you to go long (buy the CFD) or go short (sell the CFD).

CFD's give you leverage.

Example: Buying a CFD in XYZ provides you with an opportunity to purchase the shares at a variable rates such as 10 to 1 ratio instead of the full upfront share value cost i.e. paying $1,000 instead of $10,000.

An order placed that will be executed at a specific price or better after a given stop price has been reached. Therefore it combines the feature of a stop order with those of a limit order.

rhipe are the Cloud Channel Company. They provide licensing, business development and knowledge services that support services providers, system integrators and software vendors accelerate the adoption of the cloud by end customers.

Founded in 2003 as NewLease the business has grown to become the leading cloud software licensing expert in the Asia-Pacific region. From the outset they have specialised in supporting the service provider community in their adoption of the Cloud.  This was focused on subscription software licensing models from international vendors.  As the cloud has gained traction across the industry they have extended their offerings to include additional subscription licensing programs as well as more traditional programs that have become more "Cloud friendly" e.g. Microsoft Dynamics and other Microsoft volume license programs (LSP/LAR). A unique player in the field of software distribution, we are focused on enabling and accelerating adoption of the Cloud. This creates a powerful combination of company culture and core competencies, without conflicts from existing revenue models or direct to end customer service offerings.

Heritage

Starting a business is easy. Building a successful business is more difficult. Building a world leading business, respected by industry leaders for thought innovation, in one of the hottest business areas of the moment - that is special.

As with any business that seems to “appear” on the world stage from nowhere there is a lot of history. To be in the hot place today means you've probably spent a long time out in the cold, an outsider, considered to be “interesting” by your industry.

There is a tenacity required to keep going when all around are doubting you. As Rudyard Kipling said in his poem “If”:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
The founders of rhipe (then known as NewLease) had this tenacity in bucket loads.  Doug Tutus and Dawn Edmonds founded the business in 2003 and as the timeline below shows, the business has grown rapidly in vendor, customer and geographic scope.  There were as is to be expected “interesting times” along the way and Dawn is using that experience to continue guiding the business as the COO and Director.  Having guided the business all the way from startup to listing on the ASX, Doug tragically passed away in March 2014. He continues to be a beacon for the organisation through the culture he instilled, the people he recruited and above all, the memory of his passion as a business leader and his warmth and generosity as a man.

Microsoft Dynamics is a great platform for creating industry vertical differentiation.  So whether you are an existing Dynamics specialist, or a cloud service provider who is looking to add value and differentiate your offerings, rhipe can help you navigate the Microsoft Dynamics waters.
At rhipe they are passionate about the cloud, not because of the technology, but because it offers alternatives to solve business problems. However their experience also provides realism about the world rhipe actually operate within.

Situation: The cloud changes relationships across the whole supply chain. They are now having to operate at the speed of the customer which means moving from a built to last, to a built to change mindset. There is a shift from buyer beware to seller beware (caveat emptor to caveat venditor) where the customer can walk away from the service provider if they fail to live up to their promises.

Despite the hype, what the customer really needs is a hybrid model, combining their existing assets with new opportunities.  This hybrid cloud world requires the service provider to have more skills not less.  The good news is that complexity equals opportunity.

Delivering services to the customer will mean managing risk against business value in a far more fluid way.  There will be new benefits that drive an acceptance of certain previously out of scope risks.

And finally people start their cloud journey from different places and travel and different speeds.

Situation: Ensuring that licensing is accurate is the responsibility of the direct consumer/purchaser of the licenses (the entity the accepted the EULA - end user license agreement).  This has traditionally been businesses with on-premises deployment for the use of their own staff.  However for a service provider delivering a "cloud" service the responsibility for licensing shifts either partially or completely from the end customer to the service provider. Understanding this and many other complexities and then using your licensing effectively is the difference between compliance risk and strategic business differentiator.

Software Asset Management is the recognised approach to achieve this maturity. However for most organisations their experience of SAM has been centred on the “audit” aspects only. This focuses on compliance and does not consider the business context, is retrospective by definition and because of this misses the opportunity to be proactive and address compliance before there is an issue. There is a further major gap in the process in that it does not look at license optimisation i.e. over-reporting.

Solution: Licensing Optimisation - rhipe firmly believe that to add value any engagement in this space has to be a collaborative process, not something that is imposed on the service provider or end customer.  Having a clear focus on the business benefits that can be achieved assists in this process of working together..
