Unit Price vs Common Investments

Profit Unit Price

What is a Fund Unit Price?

When you invest into a managed fund, the investment amount that you deposit into that fund is placed into an investment pool with other investors money for your investment manager to trade.

By investing your money, you then own an agreed percentage of that pool of money (the Fund).

To determine what percentage of the fund you own, the total value of the funds under management is calculated and then the amount of money that you deposited into the fund is broken up into shares of the fund which is also more commonly known as units of the fund.

Hypothetical Example:
If the fund value was $700,000 and you invested $300,000 = the total value of the fund would then be $1,000,000
You would own 30% of the fund aka 30% of the Shares (units)

The unit price represents how much each unit or "share" of a fund is worth.

How Is The Daily Unit Price Calculated

Managed funds are required by law to calculate the daily value of the fund and the individual unit price of the fund each business day.

The fund’s value is determined by calculating the overall value of all the available funds and investments that the investment manager is trading each day.

Once this figure is determined we then minus any daily expenses that the fund may have leaving us with the daily total value of the fund.

Hypothetical Example:
$1,002,000 (the value of the overall fund) - $2,000 (the daily expenses of the fund) = $1,000,000 (the daily total of the fund)

Once this daily value has been determined, we then divide the total value of the fund by total number of shares (units) within the fund. This provides the daily unit price.

Hypothetical Examples:
$1,000,000 (the total daily of fund) ÷ 1,000,000 (total number of units within the fund) = $1 unit price

If you invested $100,000 you would receive 100,000 units of the fund.

Then assume the investment managers performed well ant the unit price went to $1.40 per unit
Your total units would now be worth $140,000

The Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust is an investment opportunity offered through the Gleneagle Investment Fund.

This SPDS is for investing in Units in the Class of the Fund known as the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust.

Potential investors should be aware that every reference to the name “Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust” is to a Class of the Fund, not a separate fund or trust. References to investing in the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust are references to investing in Units in the Class for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust.
The investment objective is to produce investment returns superior to the benchmark for the Class by managing a diversified portfolio of investment exposures held through Gleneagle Trusts. This includes investments dynamically managed by Strategy Managers.

The objective is to return to investors a performance which exceeds the performance of the benchmark over the medium to longer term (two years or more). The return is expected to be primarily through distributions on Units held in the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust.
The Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust aims for investment exposure to a portfolio of precious metals positions, global listed equities (direct or indirect), commodities (including oil), exchange traded funds, derivatives (including options), a broad range of fixed income investments, foreign exchange positions, structured products with various maturities and ratings; including structured notes, bond swaps and professional money market investments.

The investment exposure is gained by investing funds in one or more Gleneagle Trusts from time to time. Gleneagle Trusts means: (1) another Class of the Fund; (2) an account with the Managed Account Service (a registered managed investment scheme); and (3) any other registered managed investment scheme from time to time operated by Gleneagle Asset Management Limited as responsible entity and for which Gleneagle Securities is the investment manager.
The investment strategy for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust is primarily to target average total returns over time which are superior to the benchmark by actively managing investments in Gleneagle Trusts including accessing Strategy Managers who manage portfolios held in accounts in the Managed Account Service.

The choice of available Gleneagle Trusts, including other Class of the Fund and investments in the Managed Account Service, will be regularly assessed and allocated according to the opportunities, returns and risk profiles from time to time. The dynamically managed diversification of investment exposures and regular assessment seeks to enhance the returns for commensurate risk, so there is no fixed allocation as among the potential investments.

Investments in accounts in the Managed Account Service will be allocated as among Strategy Managers from time to time. Each Strategy Manager will be selected, allocated and monitored for the potential and actual contributions they make to the returns and risk profile for all investments through the Managed Account Service and as part of the overall return and risk profile of the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust. A Strategy Manager applies their own investment strategy and executes that strategy on investments in an account with the Managed Account Service for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust. The Responsible Entity will use the Managed Account Service to access Strategy Managers from a potentially wide and diverse range of managers to access their investment exposures, returns and risk profiles, taking into account the entire portfolio of investments portfolio held for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust from time to time.

The benchmark is the All Ordinaries®, an index of 500 equities of companies listed on the ASX.
The benchmark is an index with a large constituent base of ASX-listed shares (equity-type financial products) and is not weighted for liquidity or investability, so is a relatively stable and diversified benchmark for shares prices traded on the ASX (compared with many other indices which have fewer constituents and their index methodology is much limited or more complex).

The value of the Units may vary from time to time, depending on the underlying investment exposure. The diversity of investment exposures and the timing of rebalancing may impact both distributions and Unit values. The combined performance of distributions and Unit value should also exceed the benchmark performance over the medium to long term. No assurance is given as to the future performance of Unit values or the timing or amount of distributions (if any).
High Watermark A High-Water Mark is the highest peak in value that a fund has reached.

Some of the funds associated with the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust use a High-Water Mark to ensure that our investment managers are only paid on their performance if they exceed the Funds previous High point. This means investment managers do not get paid for poor performance. If an investment manager loses money over a period, they must get the fund above the previous historical High-Water Mark before receiving any performance bonus.

This chart shows examples of when a High-Water Mark has been reached and when a performance fee has been achieved by the Investment managers performance (see examples: A, B, C, D & E).
Gleneagle Securities (Aust) Pty Limited, ACN 136 930 526 has been appointed by the Responsible Entity (Gleneagle Asset Management Limited, ACN 103 162 278) as Investment Manager to manage the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust’s investment exposure. Gleneagle Securities (Aust) Pty Limited is a related party of Responsible Entity. As the investment manager and all documentation and information about the Fund and all client communication can be inspected and (if permitted by the Responsible Entity and the Investment Manager) obtained by contacting Investment Manager using the contact details detailed in the directory at the beginning of this PDS.

Gleneagle Securities also manages other Strategy Portfolios of the Fund. (Each Class of the Fund has a Strategy Portfolio. Please see the PDS.)

The Investment Manager’s obligations to the Responsible Entity in respect of this Class are principally:
  • investment opportunities – sourcing, assessing, arranging, managing them;
  • assessing, monitoring and managing the allocations as among Gleneagle Trusts (subject to controls imposed by the Responsible Entity);
  • assessing, monitoring and managing the allocations as among the Strategy Managers who manage accounts for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust in the Managed Account Service (subject to controls imposed by the Responsible Entity); and
  • bearing expenses arising from managing the investment opportunities.
Although there are many benefits of using managed funds there are also risks associated with all types of investments.

All investments have some level of risk. Managed investment schemes invest in a range of asset classes, for example, cash, bonds, equities and property, each of which offer different levels of risk. The likely investment return and the level of risk of losing money differs among managed investment schemes depending on the underlying mix of assets.

Typically, those assets with potentially the highest return (such as derivatives) also have the highest risk of losing money over the short term. Fixed income as an asset class exhibits its own unique risks and is impacted by market volatility as well as a cross-section of structural, regulatory and issuer-specific risks.

When considering investing in any managed investment scheme, it is important to understand that:
  • the value of your investment will go up and down,
  • returns are not guaranteed and the level of return will vary,
  • you may lose some or all of your money,
  • past performance is not an accurate predictor of future performance,
  • laws affecting your investment in a managed investment scheme may change, and
  • the appropriate level of risk for you will depend on a range of factors including your age, investment time frames, where other parts of your wealth are invested and how tolerant you are to the possibility of losing some or all of your money in some years.
When deciding whether to invest in this Fund, you must decide whether, given the nature of trading undertaken by the Investment Manager and the Fund’s underlying investments, your financial situation permits you to participate in an investment that involves a medium to high degree of risk.

Managed Funds do carry risks. You should carefully examine our Information Memorandum or PDS along with our Investment Strategies, Asset Allocations (Our Diversifications) and our Investment Manager’s track record before investing.

Here are some of the general risks associated with managed investments: (Click on the risk title to expand risk text)

The value of the Fund’s investments may fluctuate for a variety of reasons including changes in economic conditions, market sentiment, government regulations, political events, natural disasters, climate and changes in technology.
The effects on the value of each of the investment products will vary and cannot be predicted with certainty.
The Fund can be exposed to interest rate movements.
Changes in interest rates may have a negative or positive impact, either directly or indirectly, on investment returns.
The Fund can be exposed to commodities markets. Commodity markets are generally more volatile.
During periods of instability, commodities and the securities of producers often suffer extreme price fluctuations.
Natural disasters and social factors can have a significant impact on prices, as too discovery of a significant new supply, new technologies and changes in laws.
The value of derivative instruments is linked to the value of an underlying asset (or an interest rate, share index or other reference point) and can be highly volatile.
While derivatives offer the opportunity for higher gains for a smaller initial cash outlay, they can also result in significant losses, sometimes significantly in excess of the amount invested to purchase the derivative.
Risks associated with using derivatives might include the value of the derivative failing to move in line with that of the underlying asset, potential illiquidity of the derivative, a fund not being able to meet payment obligations as they arise, and counterparty risk (where the counterparty to the derivative contract cannot meet its obligations under the derivatives contract, although in an exchange traded environment, this is less).

The Investment Manager ensures that there are sufficient liquid assets available in the Fund to meet costs and other liabilities under derivatives.
The Investment Manager may use ‘short selling.
Short selling means the ‘Fund sells a security it does not own to try and profit from a decrease in the value of the investment. This is generally done by borrowing the security from another party to make the sale.
The short sale of a security can increase the risk of loss, as losses on a short position are not limited to the purchased value of the security.
The Investment Manager expects the Fund will be liquid, and that withdrawal proceeds will usually be available within 5 Business Days of the date we process your request.
However in some circumstances there may be delays.
The Fund has exposure to investments located in overseas jurisdictions.
This means the assets of the Fund are influenced by movements in exchange rates and interest rates, international political events and the potential for overseas regulations to be less robust than in Australia.
The loss of a key person within the Fund’s investment process could impact the decision making ability of the Investment Manager.
We are committed to ensuring that your information is kept secure and protected from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
We use the internet in operating the Fund and may store records in a cloud system. If stored overseas, different privacy and other standards may apply there.
The internet does not however always result in a secure information environment and although we take steps we consider reasonable to protect your information, we cannot absolutely guarantee its security.
Governments or regulators may pass laws, create policy, or implement regulation that affects the Fund, its underlying investments or the Investment Manager’s ability to execute its investment strategies.
Such initiatives may impact either a specific transaction type or market, and may be either country specific or global.
Such changes may result in the Fund failing to achieve its investment objectives.
Similarly, laws affecting registered managed investment schemes (including taxation and corporate and regulatory laws) may change in the future, affecting investors’ rights and investment returns.
Investing in a managed fund is not like investing directly in the underlying assets of the Fund. Investing in a managed fund may result in different income and capital gains outcomes when compared with investing directly.
Additionally, the Fund could be closed, and your money returned to you at the prevailing valuations at that time, and we or the Investment Manager could be replaced.
There is also the risk that someone involved with your investment (even remotely) does not meet their obligations or perform as expected, assets may be lost, not recorded properly or misappropriated, laws may adversely change, insurers may not pay when expected, systems may fail or insurance may be inadequate.
No party including the Investment Manager can guarantee the investment objective of the Fund will be achieved.
The Investment Manager may change the Fund’s investment strategy over time, to seek to ensure the investment objective is met or where it is of the view that the change is in the best interests of investors.
We may change some aspects of the Fund over time, such as the fees and expenses we charge, or the rules that govern the Fund (e.g. notice periods or withdrawal processes).
While we will give investors notice of any changes, such changes (for example, prior notice an increase in fees), changes such as this may adversely affect the performance of the Fund.
This SPDS shows fees and other costs that you may be charged for the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust.

All fees, charges and other costs outlined in this section are exclusive of GST unless otherwise specified.

These fees and costs may be deducted from the Share Prices Diversified Investment Trust assets as a whole. Taxes are set out in the PDS (see the PDS Section 7: Taxation for a further explanation).

Fund Manager

IMM Pty Ltd (International Money Management) is an Australian owned investment company providing fund management services

Peter Anderson, the Fund Manager , has successfully traded multiple asset classes for the past 20 years, including Options, Warrants, Futures Contracts, Stocks and Foreign Exchange

Investment Strategy

At the heart of the strategy is the fund managers very own mathematical algorithm designed from his trading experiences over the past 20 years. This algorithm has built in money management features and is programmed to take small profit gains regularly and banking these gains back to your own account. The algorithm uses 6 diversified currency pairs.

The fund manager overlays his manual trading strategy into his clients’ accounts and this approach guarantees diversity from a risk perspective and also increases profit potential.

This manual trading strategy employs a two pronged approach. Firstly, a macro analysis of the market is determined each trading day considering the trends in the 15 of the most liquid currency pairs. From there, trades may be entered with the intention of profiting from larger price swings.

Once these trends are known, the fund manager uses an intraday strategy to take advantage of short term price momentum.

While growing the client’s capital is paramount, the fund manager also understands the critical piece around managing risk. Knowing your trade exit position before you enter the market is simply a sound business approach., Along with the statistical success of past performance, this gives the fund manager the edge which he looks for to generate returns while minimising risk.

Overview Fact Sheet

The GT Momentum Portfolio (“the Fund”) was spawned from the highly successful Gleneagle Proprietary Trading Book (“the Prop Book) at Gleneagle Securities (AUST) Pty Limited.

Under the management of Gregory Tolpigin, the Prop Book (Real Investments) achieved annual compounded returns of 41% (after all fees) from January 2015 to October 2019 with the total returns achieving 411% net of fees.

Momentum Fund Return

  • This performance was achieved through a continuous long-term understanding of the market dynamics and flexibility, maintaining exposure only in those investments that continue to perform.

  • The Fund is a continuation of the model and strategies used within this proprietary trading book.

  • The Fund provides investors with the opportunity to invest alongside both Gregory Tolpigin and Gleneagle Securities, who are key investors in the Fund.

  • The Fund adopts multiple strategies all aimed to actively maintain exposure to those areas of global markets with strong underlying thematics, valuations and momentum. The application of multiple strategies gives the fund the advantage of being flexible to deploy funds to those asset classes, sectors and companies that are being re- rated in line with the portfolio manager’s outlook and expectations.

Strategy & Objectives

We believe that giving investors exposure to a larger set of markets and strategies allows for a better capital diversification and for generating alpha throughout the business cycle.

The fund adopts five key strategies; Equity Growth, Equity Momentum, High Yield, Global Macro and Long/Short.

Each of the strategies is executed on the basis five core principles; Price Momentum, Strong Macro Thematic, Valuation Metrics, Management and Risk.

Equity Growth
This Identifies companies experiencing strong expansion through the introduction of a new technology, new product or new mining/exploration opportunity. Deep due diligence using expert partners is undertaken of the business, management and the potential reward/risks. The time horizon is normally longer 12 months.

Equity Momentum
We identify sectors or industry trends where a period of excitement and expectation is an evolving thematic. This market cycle begins from an early “need” and then evolves into a “hype” and expert experience is required to maximise these shorter-term booms. Time – typically less than 12 months Examples: Lithium Bubble, Yield Crunch Thematic and the Gold Boom.

High Yield
This is ongoing long-term and stable income for the fund. Its an attractive strategy to help provide consistent positive returns for the fund. Structure debt instruments (convertible) are a speific target as they provide the free option to benefit from capital gain in the underlying equity.

Global Macro
The underlying thematics driving global markets can give us the opportunity to invest directly in the cause and effect. This allows the fund to capitalise at the source of many market influences in line with the longer-term trends that may or may not provide the opportunity to do so at the equity level.

Long / Short
This strategy aims to profit from equity market opportunities where extreme valuations are reached by specific companies that fail to reflect the true underlying fundamentals. Pairing overvalued assets (short) against those that have a strategic or competitive advantage (long) presents a market neutral opportunity to capture a valuation readjustment.
