General Overview

About Catalyst Metals Limited

Catalyst Metals Limited is a mineral exploration company which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX code: CYL).Catalyst holds interests in advanced gold and molybdenum projects located in Victoria.

  • Catalyst controls entire 75 kms of the Whitelaw Gold Belt (22 million ounces of historical gold production at Bendigo)
  • Virgin high grade gold discoveries at Tandarra and Four Eagles.
  • Potential for shallow open pit gold deposits.
  • Multiple processing options in close proximity.
  • GEV (subsidiary of HPPL) commits up to $4.2 million for Four Eagles.

Whitelaw Gold Belt

CYLThe term Whitelaw Gold Belt has been adopted because Catalyst’s tenements are situated along the 100 kilometre long Whitelaw Fault which is considered to be extremely important in the genesis of gold deposits that have formed adjacent to the structure. Victorian Government seismic and gravity data suggests that this large fault structure controlled the formation of the Bendigo gold deposits (historically approximately 22 million ounces of gold produced at a grade of 15 g/t Au) as well as gold mineralisation at both the Four Eagles and Tandarra Gold Projects.

Catalyst believes that other high grade gold deposits are likely to occur along the Whitelaw Gold Belt because it is mostly covered by Murray Basin sediments which vary in depth from 10 metres to 120 metres. This means that the area has never been tested by historic prospectors and has also had very limited exploration drilling by modern explorers. The potential of the Whitelaw Gold Belt was not fully realised until the Victorian Government "Gold under Cover’ initiative in 2006 which used updated gravity data to show the location importance of the Whitelaw Fault. The virgin discovery of the Tandarra gold mineralisation by Leviathan Resources Pty Ltd in 2006 and the Four Eagles gold mineralisation by Providence Gold and Minerals Pty Ltd in 2010 further confirmed the potential of the whole belt. Catalyst has consolidated tenement holdings along this belt so that it can participate in any future gold discoveries. In March 2015, Catalyst completed an agreement with Gold Exploration of Victoria (GEV), a subsidiary of Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd for GEV to sole fund up to $4.2 million in exploration expenditure on the Four Eagles Gold Project. As part of this agreement, Catalyst and GEV have agreed to cooperate on other gold projects within a large designated area which covers the entire Whitelaw Gold Belt. This designated area is shown on Figure 1 which also shows the favourable logistics and the location of at least five gold processing plants.

Tandarra Gold Project

EL4897) (Catalyst earning 51%)

CYLIn September 2014, Catalyst and Navarre Minerals Limited entered into a Heads of Agreement which enables Catalyst (through a 100% subsidiary, Kite Operations Pty Ltd) to earn a 51% interest in the tenement by spending $3 million on exploration over a period of 4 years.

The Tandarra gold mineralisation was discovered in 2006 by Leviathan Resources Pty Ltd and in 2011 the project was acquired by Navarre Minerals Limited. High grade gold mineralisation has been intersected on the Tomorrow and Macnaughtan Structures with the former structure hosting grades of up to 20 g/t Au at basement depths of less than 20 metres. Depending on the continuity of mineralisation, this area has potential for open pit mining.

Regional Exploration Potential at Tandarra

Most of the exploration activity has been focussed on the Tomorrow and Macnaughtan Structures whilst other structures in the tenementarea have had limited drill testing. Several potential gold trends are shown on Figure 4a including the 7 kilometre strike length along the Tandarra Fault Zone north of the Tomorrow Prospect and several parallel structures to the east. These interpreted structural trends are enhanced by a review of anomalous arsenic values in the Leviathan Resources data but many areas have no arsenic data because Navarre Minerals did not assay for this element A significant gold intersection was present in air-core hole ACT 046 which assayed 1.83 g/t Au from 61 metres depth in an area near the interpreted Whitelaw Fault. Another drill hole in the same area which still requires verification contained 1 metre @ 3.0g/t Au from 32 metres depth. These intersections are totally untested to the north and south where basement depths are unknown but probably less than 50 metres.

The Tomorrow – Macnaughtan Area

Air-core and RC drill holes within this area are shown with their intersections in Figures 4a, 4c and 5 respectively and clearly show two parallel gold structures around 150 metres apart. On the Tomorrow Structure, high grade gold values occur within a 25 metre wide zone with multiple quartz veining and fractures which dips steeply to the east and probably coincides with the eastern limb of a tight anticline. Two cross sections through the Tomorrow Zone.

Approximately 5.1 metres of fragmented core was obtained from this interval and assayed at approximately 7.7g/t Au. High grade intervals included 1.3 metres @ 18.2g/t Au from 20.1 metres, 1.3 metres @ 7.5g/t Au from 35.7 metres, 0.7 metres @10.9g/t Au from 36.9 metres and 1.3 metres @ 2.6 g/t Au from 45.1 metres depth. This hole would need to be re-drilled to establish if continuous high grade gold mineralisation is present at this shallow depth on the Tomorrow Structure. Other shallow high grade intersections on the Tomorrow Structure are present in several drill holes:

  • RCT006 (7 metres @5.5g/t Au from 50 metres)
  • RCT 007 (1metre @ 8.6g/t Au from 12 metres)
  • RCT063 (4metres @ 9.2g/t Au from 18 metres)
  • RCT050 (2 metres @ 18.4g/t Au from 44 metres)
  • RCT097 (3 metres @6.4g/t Au from 54 metres)
  • ACT015 (10metres @18.0g/t Au from 37 metres)

Raydarra Project

The Raydarra Project lies immediately south of the Tandarra Project and covers a strike length of approximately 10 kilometres on the southern extension of the Whitelaw and Tandarra Faults which are considered important for gold mineralisation. Very little work has been carried out on these tenements and further drilling is required to determine if gold mineralisation is present.

Catalyst is earning a 51% interest in EL5266 from Castlemaine Goldfields Pty Ltd by expenditure of $200,000 prior to March 2016. Catalyst can then earn a further 25% and potentially 100% by the expenditure of an additional $200,000.

Four Eagles Project

(Catalyst 50%: GEV earning 50%)

CYLThe Four Eagles Gold Project was a virgin gold discovery made by Providence Gold and Minerals Pty Ltd in 2010. In January, 2011, Catalyst and its wholly subsidiary, Kite Gold Pty Ltd, entered into a Heads of Agreement with Providence to farm into the Four Eagles Gold Project. The Farm-in agreement covers two exploration licences EL4525 and EL5295 and a further licence EL5508 was granted in June 2014.

In March 2015, Catalyst and Providence reached agreement with Gold Exploration Victoria Pty Ltd (GEV), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, for GEV to sole fund up to $4.2 million on exploration at the Four Eagles Gold Project to earn up to 50% in the project. This will enable extensive drilling to resume on the mineralised zones already identified within the project area with the objective of defining continuous gold mineralisation that can be economically mined.

The parties have formed a non-incorporated joint venture, with Catalyst maintaining its 50% equity in the Four Eagles Gold Project and remaining as manager. GEV has taken over the earn-in rights that Catalyst had with Providence, allowing GEV the right to earn an initial 25% interest in the project from Providence subject to funding $2.1 million of expenditure.

Once this initial investment is completed, GEV has the right to earn a further 25% interest from Providence subject to further exploration funding of $2.1 million, after which Providence would revert to a 2.5% net smelter return royalty entitlement.

Catalyst has extended the size of the gold footprint which is now around 6 kms long by 2.5 kms wide but is still only delineated by very broad spaced drilling with very few holes testing below the oxide zone. The depth of the Murray Basin sediments varies from approximately 10 metres to 120 metres and shows an undulating Ordovician surface beneath. Within this footprint, at least three north south trending gold zones can be defined each of which contains high grade gold intersections of >10g/t Au, with values up to 150 g/t Au.

Within the gold trends, three prospects (Discovery, Hayanmi and Boyd’s Dam) have been identified for further work and other areas west of the Whitelaw Fault also require reconnaissance drilling. A large programme of angled aircore, RC and diamond drilling will be necessary in the next few years to determine if continuous high grade gold resources can be established in these zones. Areas where the basement is less than 50 metres deep provide the greatest potential for open-pittable reserves.

The Hayanmi Zone is now shown to be around 2.6 kilometres long but is sparsely drilled in the northern sections. As shown on the longitudinal projection, and the cross section, the following high grade gold intersections were recorded at Hayanmi Prospect on the Eagle 3 Structure:

  • 3.0m @ 14.7g/t Au (FE591)
  • 3.0m @ 5.96g/t Au (FE471)
  • 9.0m @ 7.9g/t Au including 3.0m @ 20.5g/t Au (FE592)
  • 3.0m @ 9.1g/t Au (FE608)
  • 1.5m @ 12.9g/t Au (FE626)

Macorna Bore Project

Exploration Licence EL5521 was granted to Catalyst in October 2014 for a period of five years. The Macorna Bore project is also covered by EL5508 which forms part of the Catalyst/Providence/GEV Joint Venture of which Catalyst has a 50% equity interest. The project lies north of the town of Pyramid Hill and straddles the interpreted northern corridor of the Whitelaw and Sebastian Faults. The area is bounded on the east and west by Devonian granites and the Ordovician basement rocks are totally covered by Murray Basin sediments of variable thickness.

Catalyst's objective at Macorna Bore is to define shallow gold resources of the Bendigo style that have the potential to be bulk mined by open pits. Shallow gold mineralization has already been discovered at Tandarra and Four Eagles to the south and it is hoped that the same mineralised trends may be present along strike in EL5521 and EL5508.

WMC carried out air-core drilling in the western portion of the licence area in the late 1990s which showed some weakly anomalous gold values in Ordovician basement. These show a north-west trending zone of Au-As geochemical anomalism around 10 kilometres long but values are relatively subdued and variable. It is possible that this trend may be a north westerly splay from the Whitelaw and Tandarra Fault corridor that is interpreted to pass through the eastern side of EL5521.

Basement depths are generally greater than 60 metres in the anomalous zone but three holes drilled on the eastern side of EL5521 show basement depths as shallow as 36 metres.

Sebastian Project

(EL5533 Catalyst 100%)

In January 2015, Catalyst applied for Exploration Licence EL5533 covering the extension of the historic Sebastian gold deposit (Frederick the Great Mine) which historically had produced high grade gold (186,000 ounces @ 10.4 g/t Au).

The area under application is considered to be prospective principally for gold, particularly in association with the regional Sebastian Fault and the zone west of the Whitelaw Fault. The Sebastian Mine was a significant gold producer and previous owner, Castlemaine Goldfields Pty Ltd also intersected moderate grade gold mineralisation just north of the Sebastian township (0.4 metres @ 5.12g/t Au from 313 metres depth in FTG011). Other prospects where gold was present include the Mopoke anomaly approximately 3kms north east of Sebastian. The Whitelaw Fault appears to control the gold mineralisation at Bendigo around 10kms to the south and is also important for gold mineralisation at Four Eagles and Tandarra where Catalyst is also undertaking exploration programmes.

Everton Molybdenum Project

  • CYL
Includes one of the biggest and richest historical Mo-producing mines in Australia where total historical production averaged 1.40%MoS2
  • 75km2 project area covers whole historic molybdenite mining field.
  • Multiple outcropping molybdenum bearing intrusive stocks with historical workings identified over 5km strike

The Everton project is located in north-eastern Victoria and consists of a 75 km2 area that strategically covers the entire historically defined Everton molybdenite field and includes one of the most significant producers of molybdenum in Australia. Reported historic intermittent mining between 1916 and 1944 yielded 21,000 tonnes of ore at an average grade 1.40% MoS2 (0.84% Mo).

Catalyst will complete a first pass exploration drilling program over the immediate Everton Mine area testing the potential of high grade structurally controlled shoots and bulk tonnage lower grade mineralisation styles. Essentially no modern exploration has ever taken place at the Everton site during a time of increasing demand for molybdenum.

New drill targets have also been generated at regional prospects such as Trig Station where initial reconnaissance has already confirmed significant areas of favourably altered, quartz veined granite containing visible molybdenum extending to surface. This extended and shallow area offers potential for much greater size discoveries than that exploited historically.

Regional/Prospect Geology

The project area is located within the Wagga-Omeo structural zone of the Lachlan Fold Belt. Geological units are dominantly comprised of north-northwest trending Ordovician turbidites and black shales intruded by a series of upper Devonian felsic intrusives.

Salvages of molybendenite along quartz veins in altered porphyritic gronodiorite, Everton quarry site.

Mineralisation in the Everton molybdenite field is predominantly associated with the Everton Granodiorite which has been defined as an oxidised, I-type felsic granitoid. Molybdenite mineralization has been observed as occurring within and adjacent to quartz veins, infilling fractures or as disseminations within either porphyritic phases of the granodiorite, related dykes or contact-metamorphosed metasediments.

Since the mine ceased production at the end of World War II no further mining has been recorded until local authorities developed the site as a 'granite' quarry around 1988. The development of the site as a quarry has exposed the geology around the historical mine workings and revealed a great level of information regarding the nature of molybdenite development in vein, fracture and disseminated forms.

Limited modern day exploration has been completed within the project area and almost none has focused on the molybdenum potential. A single drill hole completed within the vicinity of the mine workings during the 1980's returned a best result of 10m @ 0.20% Mo from 23-33m, indicating that high-grade mineralization remains present at shallow depths.

Aeromagnetic data suggests that the Everton Granodiorite (384 6 Ma) represents a late phase of the recessively weathered Murmungee Granite located to the south-east. The Murmungee Granite is interpreted to represent a more mafic deep seated granitoid parent body from which fractionated granites were sourced.

Initial fieldwork by Catalyst has confirmed that veining and associated molybdenum mineralisation occurs throughout the host Everton Granodiorite and adjacent hornfelsed country rocks up to several hundred meters away from known the historical workings. Additionally, grab samples of porphyritic granodiorite with no visible veining has returned up to 0.18% Mo (1830ppm Mo) suggesting the disseminated style mineralization may represent a potentially significant target style.
