Share

Purchasing shares in a company buys you part ownership of that company. You're given the right to vote on who manages the company and receive a portion of company profits through the distribution of dividends.

Example: If a share price quote is $25, then that means one share is valued at $25.

Note: Shares are also referred to as stocks, equities and securities.

CFD

Is an abbreviation for "Contract for Difference". A CFD is a 'derivative' that is derived from the underlying value of the share price. A CFD’s allow you to go long (buy the CFD) or go short (sell the CFD).

CFD's give you leverage.

Example: Buying a CFD in XYZ provides you with an opportunity to purchase the shares at a variable rates such as 10 to 1 ratio instead of the full upfront share value cost i.e. paying $1,000 instead of $10,000.

Because CFDs are traded on margin, you must maintain the minimum margin level at all times.

Note: CFD’s are not recommended for novice traders.

Rural Broadband
About Rural Broadband

Rural broadband involves the deployment of wireless (3G/4G) networks in rural areas with the objective of closing the broadband gap. Because of the geographical limitations of fixed line (ADSL/Cable/Fibre) infrastructure, 3G and 4G (LTE) fixed wireless technologies are fast being deployed to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural homes, business and industry worldwide.

NetComm Wireless and the National Broadband Network (NBN)

The government funded NBN aims to deliver Australia's first national wholesale-only open access broadband network to all Australians, regardless of where they live. With the technology in place to connect rural Australian homes and businesses to the world's first commercial 4G / LTE TDD network (to be built, and operated, by Ericsson for the NBN Co.) NetComm Wireless was selected by Ericsson to develop advanced fixed-wireless devices to address up to 500,000 remote premises expected to connect to high-speed broadband by 2015.

Their advanced 4G/LTE fixed wireless technology can be tailored to support similar deployments globally as governments, carriers and ISPs increasingly seek to connect isolated communities based in sparsely opulated regions to fast and reliable broadband services.

Their Rural Broadband Technologies

Their Outdoor Routers are designed to connect homes and businesses to the speed and coverage of 3G or 4G (FDD & TDD) networks to deliver high speed broadband to individual premises.

The device is ideal for remote locations without a fixed (ADSL/Cable/Fibre) broadband connection or locations in a low signal strength area. This highly featured all-in-one router integrates a 3G or 4G modem, router, WiFi, voice (optional) and high gain antennas into one robust weatherproof device.

The Outdoor Routers allow users to connect their premises to high speed broadband and share this connection via a fixed Ethernet connection or via a powerful (optional) WiFi network. With the integrated 802.11n Access Point and MIMO antenna technology, the router provides reliable and wide reaching WiFi coverage for both indoor and outdoor wireless access.

The weatherproof Outdoor Router is also designed to be mounted either on a wall or pole on the outside of your premises, and its IP67 rating ensures your router will withstand harsh climates including dust, rain and extreme temperatures.

Smart Meters
About Smart Meters

Smart meters are transforming the way the world manages resources such as water, gas and electricity by enabling remote two-way communication between the meter and a central system for accurate information about how and when energy is used. Unlike conventional 'accumulation' meters which measure basic energy consumption on a quarterly basis, smart meters record and relay usage data at regular intervals to help households and businesses understand and control their energy use.

Smart Benefits

Smart meters benefit consumers, energy companies and the environment.

A smart approach will:

  • Eliminate bill shock. Households and businesses receive accurate charges based on real time consumption instead of quarterly estimates.
  • Give consumers control. Timely usage information gives users the power to offset energy costs by shifting consumption to off-peak times of the day.
  • Extend flexibility. Remote connection and disconnection services make it faster, simpler and cheaper to move premises.
  • Support remote control. Two-way data transfers abolish the need for manual meter reading while also providing instant fault and failure alerts to help better manage outages and restore power faster.
  • Cut costs. The ability to remotely repair and maintain systems lowers costs; and networks can reduce ongoing investments into grid infrastructure deployments and upgrades.
  • Provide green benefits. Greenhouse gas emissions may be reduced through an efficient allocation of resources.
A Global Phenomenon

With the demand for power on the rise, grids can no longer safely and reliably manage current and future loads. Municipalities and governments across the globe are fast investing in projects that will lead to a shift from traditional 'accumulation' meters to smart meters.

Global smart grid and meter deployments encompass almost a quarter of the entire global Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market which is predicted to reach a market value of $66.4 billion, and 854.7 million connections, by 2016 (Visiongain, 2011).

The Smart Ecosystem

As a wireless communications card provider, NetComm Wireless forms a critical part of the smart grid ecosystem which is made up of: utility retailers, carriers, meter providers, network management companies, software system and communications card developers. Each company adds a specific component to the overall smart grid network.

The Part they Play

Over the next decade, smart grids, smart meters and the wireless technology used to create the crucial connection will completely revolutionise the way the world manages energy. NetComm Wireless designs, develops and manufactures 3G-enabled wireless communications cards for the global smart grid market; and plays a key role in the communications component of smart metre deployments in Australia and throughout the world.
